New effects for Seniors

  This year, we wanted to provide our Seniors with some unique new looks in their portraits. To that end, I created some new actions in the software I use to process our images. This one, I call, "CD Cover."

I think it gives that kind of edgy and contemporary feel that one might see on a CD cover for a band.

I know I'm just an old geezer and out of touch with today's teens, but at least the teens that we've done this for so far have really liked it. :-)

The next effect, I have named, "Rembrandt Light," after the famous painter and his mastery of capturing the light on his subjects in this fashion. You can see that on the second photo.

Well, the latest deadline for Senior Yearbook submissions is coming up next week, so we're pushing it to get those done in time, but if you are still wanting great Senior portraits, we still have beautiful weather ahead of us and can get you just what you're looking for.

Red Rocks Canyon

What can I say about the way Sarah's Senior portraits turned out but, "Wow!"

We had several shooting locations all within a few hundred feet of each other, so we were able to get a good variety of portraits out of her session.

Sarah's mom, Brenda, says, "Well done. They were great Senior Portraits!"

This one is my favorite.

Have you been to Red Rocks Canyon before?  Not only is it a great place for family or Senior portraits, but it's a great place to hike and climb (with a permit). It encompasses an old quarry, so there are amazing cuts right through the hogback ridge there with these incredible "stair-steps" in the hillside. You have to see it to understand what I'm trying to describe.

It's a beautiful space and I'm glad that the city was able to preserve it as an open space and not turn it over to developers.

If you go, go in the morning or late afternoon. It gets HOT there. Then, let me know what you think of it.

Crazy couple of weeks

It's hard to believe how fast time can get away from us. Here it is already June 19. Summer is about to begin. Thankfully! It's been pretty cold out here in the country, so we're eager to see some warm weather.

The last couple of weeks have been full of weddings and seniors.

Congratulations go out to Sabrina and Wade, married May 26 at Tri-Lakes Chapel.    We had a great time with Sabrina & Wade, and loved some of the suggestions they made to us for photographs they wanted. My favorite was the one with Sabrina's dad and step-dad displaying their "Hoover Flags." They both cooperated comically and gave me some great "crying" faces to go along with their empty pockets. (Oh, if you don't know what Hoover Flags are - it's a reference to the Great Depression and the fact that no one had much money. Empty pockets turned inside out.)

We also did a recent Senior portrait session with Sabrina. We found some great new portrait spots in a location that we're used to using. Score!

Now, we're heavy into our wedding season, and are getting hired now for some Summer 2008 weddings.

Great new locations for Seniors...

... Or families, for that matter.

We have recently uncovered a few new great and unique locations for family portraits, but we especially like them for Senior Portraits.

One is at place that looks like Garden of the Gods, but far better. Here, we can easily accommodate families, engaged couples, or Seniors. We like it because, unlike Garden of the Gods, it has lots of greenery.

We also found an old quarry that has great scenery and great light. Here's Tracy shooting a Senior  Portrait there. For this one, we zoomed in really close on the subject and eliminated all the dormant tree branches so that all that appears is the subject, green grass, and a red cliff face behind her.

This Senior is in the quarry.

Another location is among some thick, lush, green growth by a pond, not far from downtown. We hope to have some new portrait examples to show you soon from this location.

We also have a new "urban" setting for Seniors.

So, we're constantly on the look-out for new and exciting locations to give your Senior portraits, or family portraits, that edge that shows your unique personality!

But, just like with all promotions, this one expires too. If you call us before June 8th, even if we schedule your sessions in the summer or fall some time, you get the DVD. After that... nope.

Lifestyle Portrait sessions
